Algal blooms from orbit

Back to work

Florida's red tides arrive with little warning and cost the state its beaches, its fisheries, and sometimes its air. Working with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, I study how well satellites can detect and track harmful algal blooms along Florida's coast, comparing today's ocean-color record against the next generation of hyperspectral sensors and pairing what they see with ocean conditions like sea-surface temperature. A first-author publication is pending, and the link will live here when it's out.
